Windows 7 Keyboard shortcuts

Posted by Davor Tuesday, June 1, 2010 0 comments

Let's kick off with keyboard shortcuts – the first thing every power user must memorize with working with a new operating system. In Windows 7, we’ve uncovered several new sets of essential time-saving shortcuts that will make your mouse jealous with neglect.

Alt + P

In Windows Explorer, activate an additional file preview pane to the right side of the window with this new shortcut. This panel is great for previewing images in your photos directory.

Windows + + (plus key)

Windows + - (minus key)

Pressing the Windows and plus or minus keys activates the Magnifier, which lets you zoom in on the entire desktop or open a rectangular magnifying lens to zoom in and out of parts of your screen. You can customize the Magnifier options to follow your mouse pointer or keyboard cursor. Keep in mind that so far, the Magnifier only works when Aero desktop is enabled.

Windows + Up

Windows + Down

If a window is not maximized, pressing Windows + Up will fill it to your screen. Windows + Down will minimize that active window. Unfortunately, pressing Windows + Up again while a window is minimized won’t return it to its former state.

Windows + Shift + Up

Similar to the shortcut above, hitting these three keys while a window is active will stretch it vertically to the maximum desktop height. The width of the window will however stay the same. Pressing Windows + Down will restore it to its previous size.

Windows + Left

Windows + Right

One of the new features of Windows 7 is the ability to automatically make a window fill up half of your screen by dragging to the left or right. This pair of shortcuts performs the same function without your mouse. Once a window is fixed to one side of the screen, you can repeat the shortcut to flip it to the other side. This is useful if you’re extending a desktop across multiple monitors, which prevents you from executing this trick with a mouse.

Windows + Home

This shortcut performs a similar function to hovering over a window’s peek menu thumbnail in the Taskbar. The active window will stay on your desktop while every other open application is minimized. Pressing this shortcut again will restore all the other windows.

Windows + E

Automatically opens up a new Explorer window to show your Libraries folder.

Windows + P

Manage your multiple-monitor more efficiently with this handy shortcut. Windows + P opens up a small overlay that lets you configure a second display or projector. You can switch from a single monitor to dual-display in either mirror or extend desktop mode.

Windows + Shift + Left

Windows + Shift + Right

If you are using two or more displays (and who isn’t, these days?), memorize this shortcut to easily move a window from one screen to the other. The window retains its size and relative position on the new screen, which his useful when working with multiple documents. Utilize that real estate!

Windows + [Number]

Programs (and new instances) pinned to your Taskbar can be launched by hitting Windows and the number corresponding to its placement on the Taskbar. Windows + 1, for example, launches the first application, while Windows + 4 will launch the fourth. We realize that this is actually one key-press more than just clicking the icon with your mouse, but it saves your hand the trouble of leaving the comfort of the keyboard.

Windows + T

Like Alt + Tab (still our all time favorite Windows specific shortcut), Windows + T cycles through your open programs via the Taskbar’s peek menu.

Windows + Space

This combo performs the same function as moving your mouse to the bottom right of the Taskbar. It makes every active window transparent so you can view your desktop. The windows only remain transparent as long as you’re holding down the Windows key.

Ctrl + Shift + Click

Hold down Ctrl and Shift while launching an application from the Taskbar or start menu to launch it with full administrative rights.

Ctrl + Click

Hold down Ctrl while repeatedly clicking a program icon in the Taskbar will toggle between the instances of that application, like multiple Firefox windows (though not browser tabs).

Here’s a neat Windows 7 trick that’s been doing the rounds on the Internet. It enables “GodMode,” a term devised by the Microsoft development team, which provides a single place to access all Windows settings without needing to browse options and folders in the Control Panel.
GodMode windowTo use it:
  • Create a new folder.
  • Rename the folder to
    GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

(note that you can change the “GodMode” text, but the following period and code number are essential).
  • The folder icon will change — double click it to show the GodMode window:
GodMode window
The window shows nearly 50 sections with quick links to configuration options. Strictly speaking, it’s not a God Mode since all the options are available elsewhere. It’s more akin to an “all tasks” list — but you may find it easier than stumbling through Windows numerous screens and panels.

How to boost internet connection download speed?

Posted by Davor Saturday, May 22, 2010 0 comments

I will count several tips for making your internet download speed faster so here we go...

  • 1. 10 to 15 percent of your bandwidth is used by TCP headers. Now this is not a waste is a need to maintain the line properly. This bandwidth is required to resend the lost packets and rectify the errors while sending information. However it can be reduced or optimized so that, Windows uses only how much it needs.
  • 2. Memory leaks in Windows Vista and Windows 7. This severely hampers the internet connection. It can be rectified by installing the patch released from Microsoft.
Links to the Windows 7 patch 979223. Please make sure of your version of OS.

  • 3. Optimize the TCP/IP registry settings.

For most of us it is a bit complex to edit the registry settings. So, I will provide a link to a program which will easy the process to bits. Select your Internet speed in the software, and select the optimal settings button, and it will do the registry optimization for you. This will also resolve the first issue. Please take a backup of your registry before proceeding from regedit. It could increas speed by almost 15 percent.

  • 4. If you are using IE it would be better to switch over to Chrome or Firefox with the recommended add-ons. These are much secured and much faster than IE IMO.
  • 5. If you are using a Internet security pack always make sure to keep your browser and download agent in exclusion of scanning incoming and outgoing connection. It severely hampers your connection as it unnecessarily scans the connection, and hence induce heavy delay. It is enough to scan the downloaded file fully after the download is completed.
  • 6. Always make sure your computer is free of infection. they not only steal your private info, but also hogs on your net speed.

How To Protect Your Router From Getting Hacked?

Posted by Davor Wednesday, May 19, 2010 0 comments

If you are reading this article of mine from your computer, then there is 90% chance that you are using a router to get connected to the internet. Router is still the mostly preferred gateway device for Internet access. Means it acts as a gateway between your computer and the Internet or the world wide web. Now if you do not protect your router properly, it takes a minute for a person to hack it. Provided he knows what he is doing.
What Will Happen If It Gets Hacked?
Depending on the intentions of the hacker, you can land into various troubles in case you are not careful. I will enlist some of them here.
In the worst case scenario you can land up in jail. Why?
Suppose the person who hacked your router, he will be able to make any changes to it and he would also be able to use the internet connection from your account. In case it is a wireless router, he can even surf the internet from your router using his laptop. Now suppose the person sends a threat email to an airport authority scaring them of a bomb. The email would be immediately traced back, and the internet connection that was used to send the email would be yours. You can imagine the events following. (These process are used by criminals and blackmailers in real life)
You may be over billed for your Internet Connection.
If your are using a limited internet connection or you are in a plan in which you pay for what you download. Then this could be a nightmare for you. After hacking into a router its dead easy to get your internet user name and password. After getting that the user can use your account for your to download and you would be paying in thousands for that.
Your computer might get hacked.
After a person has intruded your router, he can open up specific ports and then through those open ports, he can let a malicious worm creep into your system to make it a zombie computer.
Your passwords and banking details may get stolen.
After the ports are open in your router, it’s on the mercy of the hacker. He can install a deadly key logger and get all your personal information out from your  computer.
How Can I protect Myself?
Password 300x136 How To Protect Your Router From Getting Hacked?
  • Change the default password- Immediately after you purchase a new router, or finish reading this article change the default password. All the router manufactures give a default admin password. It is known to all the hackers. In most of the cases the default User name and Password are Admin and Admin. If in case it is not so you will get it in your router handbook. In case you lot it way long back, you can always find a copy in manufacturers website. This is the main point so don’t overlook it.Ping 300x135 How To Protect Your Router From Getting Hacked?
  • Disable WAN Ping- WAN stands for wide area network or in this case the internet side of the router. If this function is not disabled hackers can easily find out that your router is switched on and can make a hack attempt. You need to manually disable this function, if present in your router.
firewall 300x206 How To Protect Your Router From Getting Hacked?
  • Enable Hardware firewall- If hardware firewall is present in your router, you should always keep it enabled. There are very much efficient that software counterparts, and can effectively prevent a hack attempt.
  • Close all unused ports- Effectively close all unused ports and give the control of the ports to Firewall. This will ensure that, the ports remain opened only during the use of a software.
Firmware 300x190 How To Protect Your Router From Getting Hacked?
  • Firmware Upgrade- Always keep your firmware up to date. This removes the buggy versions and hence enhances the security flaws, that can be exploited for malicious purposes.
If the above mentioned steps are performed, then the chances are reduced almost to a 0 of getting your router hacked.

Downloading Movies really fast

Posted by Davor Sunday, May 16, 2010 0 comments

Have you ever wanted to download a movie and didn't want to use Rapidshare, Hotfile Torrents or any Filehosting site and you didn't know how?
Well here's your answer.

This is how it goes:

1. You need Firefox

2.then you need the addon "Downthemall" (https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/201/)

3.After installing both of them you have to find a Movie-Stream-Website. (www.movies-links.tv would be a good choise)

Now you can search for any Movie on that site and look for a Divx-Movie-Link the best is Stagevu.

To download the Movie you have to go to extras in the firefox Window, and locate Down-them-all -Tools and then DownThemAll!...

Now a Window should open up and you can select where the files should be downloaded. You unselect everything exept movies and then there should be only 1 more link highlighted.

To start the download click start...

Now wait a short while depending on your Internet-connection and you will have the movie on your harddisk.

Hope you like this Post and don't hold me responsible for any activities. I only show how and can not be held responsible.
